NVEnc is a standalone console application that can be used for evaluating the performance of the HW encoder on a Windows computer equipped with an NVIDIA graphics card (GeForce Kepler gen or later, GT / GTX 6xx or later). Running in the Windows console only, NVEnc comes with a plethora of functions, each explained when running the application with no arguments. If the input is in raw format, the FPS rate and the input resolution have to be specified. It performs conversions to raw H.264/AVC or H.265/HEVC and allows interlaced encoding. There are various configuration options that you can tamper with. For instance, NVEnc enables you to set the output codec and the encoder preset and there are various other parameters to deal with here. You can also define the number of consecutive B frames and choose specific output formats for the resulting file and the encoded audio. NVEnc also brings to the table cuvid decoding capabilities, as well as muxing and demuxing functionality, based on libavformat and high-performance filtering. The command line version of NVEnc supports transcoding, but the application also comes as a plugin for Avi utl.
